Music 4 A Minute

I recently started an instructional series of videos called Music 4 A Minute on YouTube. In my Music 4 A Minute video series, I’m sharing a mixture of original songs, guitar lessons, covers, and improvisations using various ideas and textures to hopefully inspire you on your musical journey. In this video I’m improvising over E Mixolydian on the guitar synth using spread triads, major 9 arpeggios, and minor pentatonic ideas targeting the flat 7 (D) on the E chord. Targeting 3rds, 7ths, and 9ths, in the chords will help you to always land on your feet when improvising. I apply many of these concepts on my new album Passionate Presence.

Here are some songs that use the Mixolydian Mode:

“Norwegian Wood” by the Beatles
“Clocks” by Coldplay
“Dark Star” by the Grateful Dead
“Express Yourself” by Madonna
“Gloria” by Them
“Green Light” by Lorde
“Hey Jude” by the Beatles (“outro” section only)
“I Think We’re Alone Now” by The Shondells.
“Lay Lady Lay” by Bob Dylan
“I Feel Fine” by the Beatles
“She said She said” by the Beatles
“In God’s Country” by U2

Now it’s your turn to add some songs that use the Mixolydian mode. I look forward to reading your comments.
